Kuuk [ kuːk ] (according to the old spelling Kûk ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Upernavik in the Avannaata Kommunia .

Kuuk is located on the southern tip of the island of Mernoq , in the northwest of which is the also abandoned town of Mernoq . Nutaarmiut is 23 km to the south-southwest .
history
Kuuk was settled before 1887. There are two lakes at the site, from whose runoff fresh water could be taken, which the place name refers to. From 1911 Kuuk belonged to the Tasiusaq community . In 1918, 42 people lived in four houses in Kuuk. In 1923 the place fell to the outsourced municipality of Nuussuaq , whose southernmost residential area it was. In 1925 a school chapel was built. In 1930 Kuuk had 37 residents. The population rose to 62 by 1944 and then fell again. In 1950 Kuuk became part of the new municipality of Upernavik . In 1950 the residential area still had 34 residents, in 1960 31 and 1970 still 12. In the following year, Kuuk was given up.
