Uluaa [ uluˈaː ] (according to the old spelling Uluâ ) is a desolate, fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district of Upernavik in the Avannaata Kommunia .
location
Uluaa is on the east bank of the Sullua Fjord . The place is one of the few in the district that is on the mainland. The next inhabited place is Kangersuatsiaq 22 km to the west. To the southwest it is 34 km to Upernavik Kujalleq .
history
Uluaa was originally a hunting ground that was not permanently inhabited. The place was good for seal hunting in winter, while reindeer were mostly hunted in summer. From 1911 Uluaa was part of the Upernavik Kujalleq municipality, but because Kangersuatsiaq was closer, the residents usually traded there. In 1918 there were 18 permanent residents living in three primitive houses. In the 1940s Uluaa had up to 24 residents. In 1950 the living space was given up.
