Itissaalik [ iˌtˢisːaːlik ] (according to the old spelling Itivssâlik ; Kitaamiusut Itussaalik ) is a waste fallen Greenland settlement in the district Upernavik in the Avannaata Come Unia .
location
Itissaalik is located in the south of the island of Niaqornarsuaq , which forms the largest island in a chain of islands in the Nuussuup Kangia (Ryder Isfjord). Nuussuaq is eleven kilometers to the northwest .
history
Itissaalik was founded in 1907 when a family from the Tasiusaq area moved about 80 km north and settled here. From 1911 Itissaalik belonged to the municipality of Tasiusaq. In 1918 there were already four families in the village, consisting of 30 people and living in five houses. In 1923 Itissaalik fell to the outsourced municipality of Nuussuaq. Until 1944 the population remained constant at around 30 people. From 1950 Itissaalik belonged to the new municipality Upernavik . In 1950, only three residents were counted who left the residential area in 1957.
