Tunoqqu [ tunɔqːu ] (the old spelling Tunorĸo ) is a desolate fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district Upernavik in Avannaata Come Unia .

location

Tunoqqu is located in the south of a small island directly east of the island of Karrat . Upernavik, the next inhabited place, is nine kilometers to the southwest .

history

Tunoqqu was settled between 1887 and 1918. From 1911 the residential area belonged to the municipality of Upernavik. In 1918 Tunoqqu had twelve residents, consisting of a man with his children, children-in-law and grandchildren. They lived in two houses. The place was described as an extremely poor hunting ground and the residents as little trouble. Because of this, they often went hungry. During the 1920s the population increased by half, but then decreased again. In 1939 the last 19 residents left the residential area.
