Christian Lerch (journalist)

Christian Lerch (* 1978 ) is a journalist and feature writer.

Life

Lerch writes and produces radio features etc. a. for ORF Radio Austria 1 , WDR 3 , Deutschlandradio Kultur and Deutschlandfunk .

In 2013 Christian Lerch was presented with the topic “The 1000 eyes of the city. Control and surveillance of a metropolis “ Fellow at the European Journalism Fellowship of the FU Berlin .

Growing up in the Lake Constance city of Bregenz , Christian Lerch began to research and work for an oral history project at the Leo Baeck Institute in New York City after studying political science at the University of Vienna and the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam . Back in Europe, he began to write and produce radio features as a freelance writer for the Radio Austria 1 series Hörbilder .

Its radio feature Sold! ( ORF / SWR / WDR ) about four Uyghur men who were sold to the CIA as alleged terrorists and imprisoned for four years in the Guantanamo Bay prison camp , was awarded the feature prize of the Radio Basel Foundation in 2010 and published as an audio book.

Lerch writes for the Austrian newspapers Der Standard and Wiener Zeitung as well as for the Russian weekly magazine Ogonjok .

He is co-founder of the Vienna media office and in 2010 was co-editor of kaptransmissions of the multimedia web journal for the soccer World Cup in South Africa . Lerch lives and works in Berlin and Vienna.

Together with the award-winning radio play director Matthias Kapohl , Lerch produced “Bi-Normal” in 2015, one of the first binaural radio features for WDR and ORF . Using binaural technology, they were able to transfer audio into 3D space in order to create a crossover of radio play and feature in this way .

Lerch concluded his drug trilogy in autumn 2016 with the feature # illegaledrogentöten ( Deutschlandradio Kultur / ORF ). A television series that explores the effects of global anti-drug policy on countries that consume, transit and produce illegal drugs. For the first time, social media comments were included live in a broadcast in a radio feature.

For the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien , Lerch conceived and curated the podcast "six seasons", in which six pictures from the famous collection of paintings serve as raw material for fictional auditory storytelling (with Ann Cotten , Mark von Schlegell, Hanno Millesi , Yasaman Hasani, among others ). The podcast is about art communication and perception in the permanent exhibition of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien .

Awards

The radio feature # illegaledrogentöten was awarded the silver award at the international New York Festivals for the best radio programs in 2017.

For "Papa, we are in Syria" ( RBB / WDR ), Christian Lerch was awarded the European media prize Prix ​​Europa for the best European radio documentary 2017 in Berlin . The radio feature accompanies a father in search of his two sons who have joined the so-called Islamic State / DAESH in Syria .
