Christian Weber (double bass player)

Christian Weber (* 1972 in Zurich ) is a Swiss double bass player who is particularly known in the field of free improvisation and jazz .

Live and act

In 1990 Christian Weber started playing the double bass . After taking private lessons in Zurich, he moved to Graz in 1993 to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts there. At the same time he began studying with Adelhard Roidinger at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz , which lasted until 1998 and was replaced by classical lessons with the Viennese double bass player Ernst Weissensteiner .

Today Weber lives in Zurich and plays in various projects such as: WAL with Joke Lanz (turntables) and Bruno Amstad (voc), the trios with Chris Wiesendanger (p) and Dieter Ulrich or Claudia Ulla Binder (p) and Dieter Ulrich as well as “WWW "With Michel Wintsch (p) and Christian Wolfarth (dr) and" Mersault "with Tomas Korber (guit / elec) and Christian Wolfarth.

In 2001 Weber received a composition commission from Pro Helvetia and wrote 3 Suits & A Violin for a quintet he directed (with Hans Koch (sax / elec), Martin Siewert (guit / elec), Michael Moser (vcl) and Christian Wolfarth).

Christian Weber has participated in the sextet and quartet of Co Streiff , Die Welttraumforscher , Neuromodulator, Philipp Schaufelberger Trio, Sudden Infant . Steamboat Switzerland and many others. He also deals with contemporary composed music and works with the Viennese composers collective "Gegenklang".

Weber, who also headed the Secretariat of the Workshop for Improvised Music (WIM) Zurich from 2000 to 2006, has already worked with many musicians from the European improvisation scene such as Peter Kowald , Irène Schweizer , Werner Lüdi , Lol Coxhill , Wolfgang Reisinger , Stephan Wittwer , Nils Wogram , Phil Minton , Wolfgang Puschnig , Julian Argüelles , Michael Griener , Johannes Bauer , Evan Parker and Michael Thieke played together. He has also performed with Charles Gayle , Robert Dick , Tom Varner , Joachim Kühn , Otomo Yoshihide , Elliott Sharp , Simon Nabatov , John Butcher and Lina Allemano .

He was also heard at many festivals in Europe. He made tours through Israel , the People's Republic of China , Taiwan , Kuwait , Japan and the USA .
