The Christ Church is a Protestant church in Mimbach , a district of Blieskastel in the Saar- Palatinate district . The church is the parish church of the Protestant parish Mimbach in the church district ( deanery ) Two bridges the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . The church is considered to be the most important Protestant church building of the 18th century in the entire Saarpfalz district and is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland's list of monuments .

history

The oldest part of the church is the lower part of the 14th century tower . During the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) the church building was badly damaged, so it was decided to start building a new nave . This happened in the years 1767 to 1769. At the beginning of the construction the medieval tower was raised and got its characteristic dome .

Two different builders were responsible for the nave and the elevation of the tower : the nave was built by the owner of the big tithe , Count von der Leyen in Blieskastel, and the building of the tower, including the hood, was the responsibility of the owner of the small tithe, the Protestant church staff in Zweibrücken . The construction work was carried out according to the plans of the Palatinate-Zweibrücken agricultural director and architect Philipp Heinrich Hellermann .

Architecture and equipment

The nave is a simple rectangular building with four window axes and a crooked or crooked hip roof . To the east of the nave is a tower with a square basic shape. The interior, with pulpit and altar barriers from the time it was built, is a typical example of a Calvinist -nüchterne Betsaalkirche .

The double grave of Johann Adluff von Eltz and Blieskastel († 1574) and his wife Katharina von Brandscheid († 1592), which is one of the most valuable Renaissance paintings in the immediate and wider area, is remarkable inside the church . The tomb attached to the east wall of the church shows the sculpted standing figures of the couple in a scroll frame , framed by coats of arms in the form of ancestral specimens and tablets. The date 1576 and the initials HBT on the tassels next to the head of the male figure indicate who created the work . It is about Hans Sculptor from Trier.

organ

Main organ

The organ was built in 1860 as opus 170 by the company EF Walcker ( Ludwigsburg ) and has 16 registers distributed over 2  manuals and pedal . The listed instrument is the first Walcker organ and thus the cone store organ in Saarland. The instrument is set up on a gallery . The console is on the side of the organ case .

In 1965 the organ building company Gebr. Oberlinger Orgelbau ( Windesheim ) carried out a profound renovation , whereby the organ, which was originally designed for a fundamental, romantic sound, was converted into a pointed neo-baroque sound. This was done by replacing several fundamental 8 'registers and strings with more pointed 4', 2 'or mixtures.

The organ was successfully dismantled, renovated and restored to its original optical and sound condition in 2016/2017 with considerable financial investment by the organ building company Markus Lenter, Sachsenheim.
