The Chuschi district is located in the Cangallo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​412 km². The 2017 census counted 8906 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8,080, in 2007 8,281. The district administration is located in the 3141  m high village of Chuschi with 1266 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chuschi is 23 km west of the provincial capital Cangallo .

Geographical location

The Chuschi district is located in the Andean highlands in the western north of the Cangallo province. The Río Pampas borders the district in the south. The Río Chicllarazo, upper reaches of the Río Cachi , rises in the northwest of the district and crosses the north of the district before turning to the northeast.

The Chuschi district borders in the southwest on the Totos district , in the northwest on the Paras district , in the north on the Vinchos district ( Huamanga province ), in the east on the Los Morochucos and María Parado de Bellido districts, and in the south on the Alcamenca , Huamanquiquia districts and Sarhua (all three in the province of Víctor Fajardo ).
