Claus Demke

Claus Demke (born June 16, 1939 in Frankfurt am Main ; † February 22, 2002 in Wiesbaden ) was a German politician ( CDU ), member of the Hessian state parliament and state secretary of finance in Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1961, Demke studied law . He came to the state parliament so young that he already passed his second state examination as a lawyer as a member of the state parliament. He was a lawyer by profession and was also one of the first tax law specialists .

politics

Claus Demke has been active in local politics since 1964. Demke was chairman of the city council of Dreieich from 1977 to June 2, 1979.

He made this commitment to local politics his main office. During his work in the state parliament, he first became deputy managing director and alderman of the Hessian City Council, then the managing director.

From December 1, 1970 to September 29, 1988 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament. He was mostly elected in the Offenbach Land I constituency. In the state elections in Hesse in 1983 he was defeated by the Social Democrat Matthias Kurth and entered parliament via the CDU state list. In the state parliament he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from November 9, 1978 to December 11, 1979.

Claus Demke was always a member of the Interior Committee, but also a member of the Environment Committee and the Legal Committee of the State Parliament.

Between 1988 and 1991 he was State Secretary for Finance in the Walter Wallmann cabinet , replacing Hans Dethlof .

After reunification, Claus Demke was again State Secretary to the Minister of Finance. This time, however, in the new federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Other offices

After leaving the State Secretary of Hesse, Claus Demke became General Manager of Advanta Management AG in Frankfurt.
