Colares is a Portuguese town and municipality in the Sintra county . The local, traditional Colares wine-growing region is named after the place. The Malvasia de Colares is one of the most famous wines from here.
The reality show “ The Summer House of the Stars - Fight of the Celebrity Couples ” on TV channel RTL was produced here in the summer of 2016.
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. Later it was a village in the Roman province of Lusitania . From this time are u. a. Coins and inscriptions have been preserved. After the Moors also conquered this area from 711 , Portugal's first king, D.Afonso Henriques , also conquered Colares during his conquest of Sintras in 1147 , which then received its first city rights. In 1255 King D.Afonso III confirmed . the city rights and made Colares the seat of its own circle.
The area belonged to the Portuguese crown until King D. João I gave it to the knight Nuno Álvares Pereira for his services to the independence of Portugal after the revolution of 1383 . Only after the death of King D. Manuel's mother , the area came back directly under the royal family. D. Manuel renewed the town charter in 1516 .
In the course of the various administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , the Colares district was dissolved in 1855 and has been a municipality in Sintra County ever since.
Culture and sights
Cape Cabo da Roca and the municipality's beaches are the most famous attractions. The historic Sintra tram goes to Praia das Maçãs , the most famous beach in Colares.
The community's numerous monuments include a number of mansions , sacred buildings , fountains, and historical private and public buildings. The community is also part of the Sintra cultural landscape , which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995 .
In the building of the volunteer fire brigade ( Bombeiros Voluntários de Almoçageme ) is the Museu Renato Lobo Garcia , which is dedicated to the history of the fire brigade.
