Corey Down (born February 18, 1979 ) is a former New Zealand ice hockey player and today's coach. He played most of his active career with Auckland teams . From 2011 to 2014 he was the head coach of the New Zealand women's national team .

Career

Corey Down started his career with an amateur team in Auckland . When the semi-professional New Zealand Ice Hockey League was founded in 2005, he moved to the newly formed South Auckland Swarm , for whom he played for two years. The 2007 season he spent on the South Island in Southern Stampede of Queenstown . However, he returned to Auckland in 2008 and initially played for the West Auckland Admirals for two years . In 2010 he returned to his first NZIHL club, which was now called Botany Swarm , and won the title with him in 2010 and 2011. Then he ended his career.

International

His debut in the New Zealand national team was Down at the D World Championship in 2000 , where he and his team were promoted to the C group, which was now called Division II due to the change to the current division system. There, New Zealand only finished last in 2001 and so he had to qualify for Division II in 2002 and since only last place was reached there, he then had to compete in Division III in 2003 . At the tournament held in Auckland , Down succeeded with his team promotion to Division II. He subsequently played in Division II in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 and 2011 when he was voted the best player on his team Intermittent relegations he had to compete with New Zealand in 2007 , when he achieved the best plus / minus balance of the tournament, and in 2009 in Division III, but achieved immediate promotion in each case.

Coaching

At the 2011 , 2012 , 2013 and 2014 World Championships , Down was the head coach of the New Zealand women's national team . In 2011 they won the title in Division IV, whereby the New Zealanders were classified in the A group of Division II when they switched to the system used by the men, in which they played in the three following tournaments.
