Cory Larose (born May 14, 1975 in Campbellton , New Brunswick ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who last played for the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league on the position of the center .
Career
Larose began his ice hockey career in 1993 at the age of 18 at the Kimball Union Academy in Meriden , New Hampshire . The following year, the Canadian moved to the British Columbia Hockey League for the Langley Thunder, for which he played two years before returning to the United States in the summer of 1996 , as he began his studies at the University of Maine . There he played at the same time for the university team in Hockey East , a league in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In total, he ran for four seasons - until the end of the 1999/2000 season - for the team in which he was always one of the best scorers. In addition to numerous individual awards, he won the US College Championship in Division I with the team in 1999 and the Hockey East championship the following year.
Following the 1999/2000 college season, the striker signed in May 2000 as an undrafted free agent a two-way contract with the newly formed Minnesota Wild from the National Hockey League and thus switched to the professional camp for the 2000/01 season. However, they only use it in their farm teams in the East Coast Hockey League and International Hockey League . The Canadian also spent the following two seasons in the minor leagues , where he played for the Houston Eros in the American Hockey League and was elected to the AHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the season . After almost three years in the organization of the game without use in the NHL, Larose was given in February 2003 in exchange for Jay Henderson to the New York Rangers . There he was also used for the rest of the game year 2002/03 in the farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack , but came after he had spent most of the following season in Hartford, to his NHL debut for the Rangers. In seven encounters, he managed an assist . Since his contract expired in the summer of 2004, Larose left the Rangers and hired as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers . As in Minnesota and New York, the center could not earn a regular place in the NHL squad and found itself again in the American Hockey League, this time with the Chicago Wolves .
After only one year with the Wolves, which he finished as the team's second best scorer, Larose decided to move to Europe. He signed a contract with the Swiss national league club SCL Tigers , which he remained loyal to the entire 2005/06 season , but could not prevent the last place in the main round despite his 31 points scorer. In the subsequent playdowns, he was instrumental in keeping the team from Langnau up with seven points in six games . Although the team had remained in the top division, Larose returned to the 2006/07 season in the AHL to the Chicago Wolves. He completed the best season of his career with 83 points in just 63 encounters and together with Darren Haydar , Brett Sterling and Jason Krog put the most dangerous offensive in the entire league. Overall, Larose reached fifth place in the scorer rating of the AHL, but, like his teammates, could not prevent the elimination in the semi-finals of the playoffs.
Despite his final breakthrough in the North American minor leagues, the striker left the Chicago team again after just one season and signed a contract in Europe for the second time in the 2007/08 season. His first stop was the Russian super league team Ak Bars Kazan , which he turned his back on after only four games and moved to Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien . There he spent the rest of the game year , but missed the playoff qualification with the team. In the summer of 2008, Larose's second European engagement ended when he accepted a two-way contract with the San Jose Sharks from the NHL on July 15, 2008 . After the pre-season training camp, they sent him to their AHL farm team, the Worcester Sharks . Spent the entire season there, but never really found her way around. In the playoffs, the attacker was even put in the stands by the coaching staff.
For the season 2009/10 Larose joined the SC Langenthal in the Swiss National League B . From September 2010 he was under contract with the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league .
