Coteaux de Pierrevert
Coteaux de Pierrevert is a wine-growing region in the northern section of the Provence wine-growing region . This area of origin, which has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short) since July 1, 1998 , is named after the municipality of Pierrevert . The vineyards extend north of the Verdon River around the town of Manosque over 11 municipalities of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department . The vineyards cover almost 450 hectares of vineyards and are among the highest in France. The average harvest is 24,000 hectoliters / year. In 2005, 15,955 hectoliters of wine were produced on 338 hectares of declared area .
Due to the character of its wines, some authors attribute the wine-growing region of Coteaux de Pierrevert to the wine-growing region of Rhône , whose region of origin borders the Côtes du Luberon to the west.
Wine and grape varieties
The red wine , which makes up 60% of the wines brought in, is made from the main grape varieties Grenache and Syrah (the proportion of the first two varieties has been at least 70% since 2001, with a single main variety must contain at least 30%). In addition, the secondary varieties Carignan , Cinsault and Mourvèdre are permitted up to a maximum of 30% . The red wines are usually garnet red, not too heavy, fruity and fragrant and, due to the altitude, have a strong acidity .
The grape variety Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault is used for the rosé wine , which makes up 30% of the total harvest.
The white wine (10% of the harvest) contains the main varieties Grenache Blanc , Vermentino (the first two grape varieties must have a combined share of at least 50% from 2006), Ugni Blanc , Clairette Blanche , Roussanne , Marsanne blanche and Piquepoul Blanc . The white wine must consist of at least two grape varieties. The proportion of a single grape variety must not exceed 70%.
The yield limit is generally 50 hectoliters / hectare. The wines must have a minimum alcohol content of 11 percent by volume .
