Volx is a French municipality with 3171 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the Arrondissement Forcalquier , the canton Manosque-2 and the municipal association Durance-Luberon-Verdon Agglomération .
geography
The municipality is located around 50 kilometers northeast of Aix-en-Provence at the edge of the Luberon Mountains in the Durance valley . Neighboring communities are:
- Villeneuve in the northeast, east and south,
- Manosque in the south and southwest,
- Dauphin in the west and
- Saint-Maime in the northwest.
The Canal de Manosque and Canal de la Brillanne run through the village , as well as an EDF water canal on the eastern edge of the village , over which a hydroelectric power station is operated in Sainte-Tulle . The municipality is bounded in the southeast by the river Durance and in the northeast by its tributary Largue .
Transport links
The community is accessed via the high-level transport links in the Durancetal. These are the A51 motorway and the parallel departmental road D4096, from which the D13 branches off in the local area of Volx and follows the Largue river into the hinterland. The railway line from Lyon- Perrache to Marseille- Saint-Charles also runs through the municipality . However, the station has been closed since 1979. The nearest train stations and motorway entrances and exits are in Manosque and Oraison .
