Mane is a French commune with 1,349 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the Arrondissement Forcalquier and the canton of the same name . The inhabitants are called Manaraines or Manarains .
location
The municipality, a little south of Forcalquier on national road 100 and department road 13, covers 22 square kilometers at 386 to 868 m above sea level and is located in the valley of the river Laye .
history
Archaeological investigations showed that people settled and farmed here as early as Gallo-Roman times. The remains of a Roman villa were uncovered. In 1103 the place appears as "Manoa"; at that time a Benedictine priory was established here . In the 19th century, Mane was known for its faiences .

Attractions
- Salagon monastery complex, a former Benedictine priory, with Notre-Dame-de-Salagon church (core from the second half of the 12th century, expanded in the 16th century), with medieval frescoes. Since the early 1980s, the complex has been the "Musée départemental ethnologique de Haute-Provence", responsible for the folkloric and botanical heritage of the region, with several botanical gardens containing over 600 types of aromatic and medicinal plants. A burial church (5th / 6th century) with stone coffins also belongs to the complex.
- Citadelle de Mane, fortifications of the 17th / 18th centuries Century.
- Parish church of Saint-André, with a Baroque facade from the 16th century, Gothic choir and bell tower from the 17th century
