Lérins Abbey was the local ruler from 990 to 1259 . In 1262 the castle was taken by King Charles of Anjou . During the French Revolution , the castle, which then belonged to the de Castellane family, was expropriated and sold as a national property. The buyer was a family friend who bought it back for the previous owners. A patriotic society has existed in town since the French Revolution.
In 1973 Esparron merged with the municipality of Albiosc , which has a center from the 12th century.
