Episcopal coat of arms

Coat of arms of Bishop Viktor Josef Dammertz

The three-part coat of arms shows in the first field the red and white colors of the diocese of Augsburg, including a five-armed golden chandelier on a black background, the coat of arms of the Congregation of St. Ottilien, the origin of the Benedictine. The personal coat of arms shows a gold star on a blue background above and a white cross on a red background below, separated by a diagonal white band. This was already part of his coat of arms as Archabbot of St. Ottilien, according to his motto Iter para tutum ("Prepare a safe path").

The motto of the bishop For you - With you should express that the people of God entrusted to him are to be led on the “safe” path and to walk with them on this pilgrimage of faith.

The lecture cross and the prelate's hat with 12 tassels frame the coat of arms.
