Daniel Erlich (born March 13, 1991 in Thornhill , York Region ) is a Canadian - Israeli ice hockey player who has been playing with the Western Ontario Mustangs for the Canadian University Championship since November 2012 .

Career

Daniel Erlich first played from 2004 to 2007 for HC Metulla , for which he took part in the championship of the Israeli ice hockey league. During the 2006/07 season , in which HC Metulla was only defeated by the Haifa Hawks in the playoff final , the striker was followed by an engagement with the Toronto Marlies Midget AAA in a lower-class Canadian junior league. The season 2007/08 began the Israeli-Canadian dual citizenship with the Toronto Junior A Canadiens in the second-rate Canadian junior league Ontario Junior Hockey League . After 21 games in which Erlich had scored 20 points, he was ordered to the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League , which he had selected in 2007 in the OHL Priority Selection . At the London Knights, the left-handed shooter, who preferred to act either as a center or right winger, quickly developed into a reliable scorer. Together with fellow players around Nazem Kadri , John Carlson , Philip McRae , Justin Taylor and Trevor Cann , the team was aiming for the second J. Ross Robertson Cup in the club's history in the 2008/09 season , but failed in the Conference Finals against the Windsor Spitfires .

Also the following season Erlich completed in the jersey of the Knights and again the team was denied entry into the final series of the J. Ross Robertson Cup. In January 2011 he was transferred to the Guelph Storm within the Ontario Hockey League . The London Knights were compensated for this with a total of three draft picks. After Erlich stood out with good performances at the Guelph Storm and achieved a quota of a little more than one point per game, the EC Red Bull Salzburg from the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga noticed the striker and signed him in April 2011 . First he was given a contract for the 2011/12 season . The attacker made his competitive debut for Salzburg in August 2011 in the European Trophy . During the European Trophy he scored two goals and one assist in eight games. In the EBEL, he scored one goal and six assists in 16 games. In late November 2011 he returned to his Canadian homeland, where he was on the ice for the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League until the end of the season. For the 2012/13 season, Erlich moved to the Western Ontario Mustangs , who play for the Canadian University Championship. There he was elected to the league's all-rookie team in his first year and a year later to the league's first-all-star team.

International

Erlich is an Israeli citizen and took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in Division III in 2005 and 2006 and the U18 Junior World Championships in 2007 in Division II with the Israeli offspring . As the top scorer, top scorer and best assists in Division III (12 goals and 14 assists ), he played a key role in Israel's promotion to Division II in 2006. In the men's national team , he made his debut at the 2013 World Cup in Division II. With seven goals And 16 preparations he became the top scorer of the tournament in group B and thus contributed significantly to promotion to group A of division II. Although he was there at the 2014 World Cup together with the Estonian Robert Rooba with eight assists the best goal setter of the tournament, he and his team had to accept the immediate relegation. With the goals to 2-2 and 3-2 in the final game against Iceland, he had still nourished hopes of relegation. In the end, however, the Israelis lost the decisive duel 3: 4 after a shootout.
