Daniel Ionuț Isăilă (born June 29, 1972 in Brașov ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . In his active career, the central defender played 149 games in Divizia A , the highest Romanian division. He has been in charge of the Romanian U-21 national team since December 2016 .

Career as a player

Isăilă's career began with Tractorul Brașov in his hometown. In 1992 he joined the squad of the first team that played in Divizia B at the time . In 1994 he became a regular player, but missed promotion to Divizia A several times with his team . In the summer of 1996 he left the club and joined local rivals FC Brașov , who in turn were represented in the upper house. With his new club he was relegated at the end of the 1996/97 season . Isăilă returned to Tractorul, but made a new attempt at FC Brașov a year later. There he returned to Divizia A in 1999 when he was promoted.

After relegation in the 1999/2000 season , the top club Rapid Bucharest brought Isăilă to the capital. There, however, he could not prevail and returned to Brașov during the winter break. With FC Brașov he closed the 2000/01 season in third place and was thus involved in the club's greatest success since the runner-up in 1960 . In the subsequent UEFA Cup , he and his team were eliminated after beating MIKA Aschtarak in the qualifying round after two defeats against Inter Milan . With a fourth place in 2002/03 he was able to build on this success for a short time, but had to start again in Divizia B after relegation in 2005 . In the two years before relegation Isăilă was hardly used. After missing the return to the House of Lords behind Ceahlăul Piatra Neam die and local rival Forex Brașov , he ended his career in 2006.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career, Isăilă worked as a football coach. In 2006 he became the head coach of FC Săcele in Liga II . After a year returned as assistant coach of Răzvan Lucescu to his former club FC Brașov . Even under Lucescu's successor Viorel Moldovan , he remained with the club before he became its successor in the summer of 2010. With the commitment of the Portuguese António da Conceição Silva Oliveira in December 2010, however, he had to move back into the second member. After his resignation in July 2011, he took over his duties until a few weeks later José Murcia became head coach. Murcia dissolved his contract at the end of August 2011 and passed the scepter on to Isăilă again. Lying in 14th place, he was dismissed in early November 2011 and replaced by Marius Șumudică . On November 4, 2011 Isăilă was head coach for league rivals Sportul Studențesc . With Sportul he had to relegate to Liga II at the end of the 2011/12 season . At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he took over the relegated club FCM Târgu Mureş . In March 2013 he had to take off his hat there.

In April 2013 Isăilă succeeded Valentin Sinescu as head coach of first division club Astra Giurgiu . There he just missed qualifying for the Europa League at the end of the season . In March 2014 he was released and replaced by Florin Marin . In early May 2014 he became his successor and was runner-up in the league behind Steaua Bucharest . Then his team won the Romanian Cup . At the end of October 2014 he became an assistant under Anghel Iordănescu in the Romanian national team . After Iordănescus left the European Championship in 2016 , Isăilă was not taken over by his successor Christoph Daum . He has been in charge of the Romanian U-21 national team since December 2016 .
