Werner Fehling is an excellent center forward. As a substitute for a sick player, he is just the thing for the up-and-coming football club Gloria 03. But he endangers the team's solidarity by hooking up with Grete Gabler, the daughter of a club board member and the girlfriend of Gloria goalkeeper Jupp Jäger. The fight for the love of the beloved comes to a head just when the club is on the verge of its greatest triumph: the final of the German soccer championship in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin in 1936. One quickly gets involved because of the rivalry between the two, which is also played on the field Opponents against FC Nord with two goals behind. At half time, emotions boil in the cabin ...

Production notes

Filming began on September 8, 1941 and ended in early December of the same year. The strip, which was mainly shot in black and white, also had color sequences that were made by Erich Rossel and Japp Swart on June 22, 1941 at the final of the German championship between Rapid Wien and FC Schalke 04 . The film structures were designed by Herbert Hochreiter , the costumes by Maria Pommer-Uhlig. Oskar Marion was in charge of production, Bruno Balz wrote the lyrics to Michael Jary's music .

The production costs amounted to 1.64 million Reichsmarks , the box office results by April 1943 were 3.28 million RM. This made The Big Game a huge box office success.
