Dax van de Velden (born May 24, 1992 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League since 2015 .

Career

Clubs

Van de Velden, who comes from the largest city in the Netherlands, began his career as a hockey player with the local Amstel Tijgers , for whom he made his debut in the Ehrendivision , the top division of the Netherlands, at the age of 15 . After the Tijgers withdrew from game operations in 2010 for financial reasons, the North Dutchman switched to the reigning national champion Nijmegen Devils in Gelderland , but also played some games for the Zoetermeer Panters . After only one year he returned to his hometown and played there for two years for the Amsterdam G’s , the successor club of the Tijgers. In 2013 he moved to the Czech Republic, where he only came to the second-rate BK Mladá Boleslav and returned to the Netherlands in October of the same year - this time to the Friesland Flyers from Heerenveen . Since 2015 he has been playing for Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the then newly founded Belgian-Dutch BeNe League .

International

For the Netherlands van de Velden took part in the Division I games of the U18 Junior World Championship in 2008 and - after the Dutch were relegated - in the Division II games of the U18 World Junior Championship in 2009 and 2010 . As a 17-year-old, he represented his colors in Division II of the U20 World Junior Championship in 2009 . Also in 2010 , 2011 when he was voted best player on his team and in 2012 he was on the ice at the Division II U20 World Junior Championships.

In the first qualifying round for the 2014 Winter Olympics , which took place in Budapest in November 2012 , van de Velden made his debut in the men's national team . After the surprising 7: 6 success after a penalty shoot-out in the decisive game against the hosts , the defender was also nominated for the second qualifying round in Bietigheim-Bissingen in February 2013 , where the Dutch had no chance and were eliminated after three clear defeats in the group bottom . Only two months later he made his World Cup debut in Division I in Donetsk , where he scored his first men's World Cup goal with a 2-0 win against Lithuania . In 2014 and 2015 he was also on the ice in Division I.
