Deathrite is a Saxon death metal band from Dresden , which was founded in 2010.

history

The founding of the band goes back to a jam session in 2010 between the drummer Stefan “Beff” Heinz, the guitarist Andy Heinrich and the singer Tony Heinrich. The first three albums followed: Deathrite (2011), Into Extinction (2013) and Revelation of Chaos . The band also went on tour through Europe and played with bands such as Napalm Death , Toxic Holocaust and Ramming Speed . In 2015 the band was also at Party.San . In 2017, the single Where Evil Arises was released . From the end of March to the beginning of May, Deathrite went on tour through Germany and Switzerland with Mantar and Deserted Fear . In January 2018 the group signed a contract with Century Media . The bassist Anton Hoyer and the second guitarist Tom Michalik also joined as new members. The album Nightmares Reign was released in November of that year . It was produced, mixed and mastered within ten days by Richard Behrens and Emanuele Baratto in the Big Snuff Studio in Berlin . In 2018 the band also took part in the Summer Breeze . In November and December of that year they went on tour through Germany and Switzerland with Mantar, Evil Invaders and Skeletonwitch . In 2019 the group could be seen again at Party.San.

style

Michael Echomaker from Ox-Fanzine summed up Into Extinction as a mixture of grindcore , death metal, hardcore punk and punk .

Boris Kaiser from Rock Hard noticed the punk and grindcore roots of the group and called Revelation of Chaos as "an almost flawless, completely reduced death metal-breaker", the sound of Entombeds Left Hand Path and Dismembers Like an Everflowing Stream remember . Deathrite surpassed a similar band like Fatalist . A crustcore influence can often be heard in the songs and the approach of the band is more reminiscent of Black Breath , Coffins or Goatwhore than of a Swedish band from the early 1990s. In a later edition Patrick Schmidt reviewed Nightmares Reign and wrote that the band has moved further away from classic Death Metal by incorporating Crustcore, Post-Hardcore and Celtic Frost influences. In the songs there would also be tonal parallels to Voivod , Obituary and Goatwhore as well as a gloom in the style of Tribulation . The songs lack catchiness, however. In the same issue, Mandy Malon described the music as " Death 'n' Roll somewhere between Hellhammer and D-Beat- Punk". Nightmares Reign went lyrically in a different direction than its predecessor, which had discussed war. Rather, the texts would move between the extremes of ecstasy and sensuality as well as death and blasphemy . In an interview with her, Tony Heinrich stated that he was lyrically inspired by his undertaker profession. Otherwise he was influenced by country music in this regard . Because the group now has a second guitarist at their disposal, it is now easier to move between different extremes in the songs, such as loud and quiet or fast and slow.

Petra Schurer from Metal Hammer described Revelation of Chaos as raw and “deeply stressed” Death Metal. Besides “Hackhymnen” there would also be groovy passages on the album. Three years later, Dominik Winter wrote about Nightmares Reign that the music sounded even more hopeless and darker than before, was raw and reduced to the bare minimum and was reminiscent of Entombed and Dismember. Deathrite is based on the 1990s, but would not miss the variety. In the songs, the group also processed influences from Doom Metal , Crustcore and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal .
