The General Güemes department is located in the northwest of the Chaco province in northwest Argentina and is the largest department in the province in terms of area. In total, the province is divided into 25 administrative units.
It is bordered by the Formosa Province to the northeast , the Libertador General San Martín Department to the east, the Maipú Department to the south and the Almirante Brown Department and the Salta Province to the west .
The capital of the General Güemes Department is Juan José Castelli . It is 300 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia and 1,305 kilometers from Buenos Aires .
