The Nueve de Julio department is located in the west of the Chaco province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 25 administrative units .
It is bordered to the north by the Almirante Brown department , to the northeast by the General Belgrano department , to the east by the O'Higgins department , to the south by the Chacabuco department and to the west by the province of Santiago del Estero .
The capital of the Nueve de Julio department is Las Breñas . It is 235 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia and 1,130 kilometers from Buenos Aires .
