FC St. Pauli's fault that I'm so is a compilation of the FC St. Pauli - fanzines of the step-over from 1998. The album was released as a CD and double LP on the Hamburg punk label Bitzcore Records .

History of origin

As early as 1996 the label Offside Records released the Pauli record , a compilation with various bands from the punk and German rock genre. The fanzine Der Übersteiger referred to this sampler as "Fanverarsche", since only very few songs had anything to do with football. In order to counter this sampler, Der Übersteiger launched an “ÜS Song Contest”, in which catchy hymns for St. Pauli were demanded. When putting together the compilation, the problem arose that many original artists did not approve, so that some contributions had to be deleted. In order to replenish the album, bands that were known in the area of the football club were specifically approached, such as Die Ärzte , who had supported the club financially. Loyalty to the club was a criterion for inclusion in the sampler, but critical songs were also welcome, especially because FC St. Pauli was relegated from the 1st to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1996/97 season and promotion was not foreseeable.

In addition to a CD version, the album was also released as a double LP. The title is derived from the contribution of the band Terrorgruppe , who recorded a new version of their song The society is to blame that I am like this for the sampler . In addition to the songs, the album also includes support chants from the stadium.

Song info

The terrorist group that gave the sampler its name with the song St. Pauli that I am so is also represented on the sampler with the song Anders als wie ihr as “Gurkentruppe”.

Bela B. from Die Ärzte interprets the song Dusty Crown as Mr. Felsenheimer together with Perry Spinoza (ex- Vanilla Muffins , ex- Stimpy , today at Moslem Heat ) .

The Bates song ... and I was young is a German version of the song When I Was Young by Eric Burdon .

The song The Heart of St. Pauli from Hans Albers was interpreted twice on the sampler, even by the Phantastix with Slime guitarist Michael "Elf" Mayer and once from down singer Frank Z. .

Rudi Carrell's hits When will it be summer again? , actually already a cover version of Steve Goodman , was used by the skapunk band No Respect to think I'm crazy? reinterpreted. While Der Übersteiger had problems with the release for many performers, Rudi Carrell released his piece directly.

Turbonegro provided the song I Got Erection from their album Ass Cobra with a German text that deals with football mania.

The Oi! -Band Smegma interpreted the band's anthem by Pöbel & Gesocks (still recorded as Beck's Pistols) to become “Göbel & Gesocks”. The song is about the young player Mike Göbel , who was used as a goal scorer for the amateurs and three times for St. Pauli in the Bundesliga. The title later appeared on Extended Play stoppage time .

Phantastix are represented three times. In addition to Das Herz von St. Pauli together with Elf , they dedicated a song to goalkeeper Klaus Thomforde . The third contribution is the song Spuk am Millerntor .

... But Alive interpreted their piece She was, she is, she stays from the album Für uns nicht (1993) together with cartoonist OL .

Éire Ógs The Celtic and St. Pauli Song was recorded live at the Übersteiger Christmas Party in 1997 at the Marquee Club . The band is from Glasgow .
