The Million Heist (Dollars) is an American crime comedy directed by Richard Brooks from 1971 .

action

Joe Collins and Dawn Divine rob the Hamburg branch of a US bank. Under the pretext that there was a bomb in the bank, Collins had himself locked in the chamber with lockers. There he opens some lockers that contain money from illegal activities in the USA and deposits the bundles of money in his own locker. Meanwhile, the branch manager Mr. Kessel praises him as a hero.

A little later, Divine comes with a bag and picks up the money, a little over a million US dollars in total . However, Divine and Collins are being hunted by the other criminals. Divine escapes by pretending that she is getting on a train.

Collins is followed much longer. One of the criminals tries to run him over on a frozen lake. Eventually the ice sheet collapses under the car. Collins escapes.

Reviews

Rotten Tomatoes wrote that the film was "high-spirited". The city of Hamburg with its nightlife is shown as "stylish" and "atmospheric". Goldie Hawn appears "rushed" and "stiffened" in the film while Warren Beatty appears "cool" and "calculating".

In the lexicon of international film , the film is described as "entertainment made to perfection", "with witty ideas and satirical tips against big money-makers."

Quincy Jones was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1973 for film music .

The film was mainly shot in Hamburg . The bank is the Hamburger Kunsthalle ; the foyer was used for the counter hall. The chase was filmed in the Speicherstadt , at Hamburg Central Station and in the St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel . The scene on the frozen lake was made in Sweden , the end in Malibu .
