The former pastor had left church service to get married. Pastor Thomas grew up in this district and spent his youth there. When Pastor Thomas arrives in front of the church late on the evening of his first day of arrival, he finds it locked. However, he manages to open the door with a wire. In the church he finds 15-year-old Tessa Nowak who is secretly sleeping there. There is an argument between Pastor Thomas and the girl, who apparently has something to hide. Tessa is unhappy and desperate. She is unintentionally pregnant and a pregnancy test carried out confirmed her fears. Tessa is the daughter of Agnieszka Nowak from Poland. a. as a housekeeper in the parish of St. Joseph, financially keeping afloat.

The next day there is a reunion with his old friend Max Polke. Max Polke, the “godfather of the neighborhood”, has become a rich man as the owner of a cleaning and security company; he works as a financial sponsor in social hot spots. He is married to Nora, who previously studied art history for three semesters and whom he macho as a "sugar doll". He wants to support his friend Pastor Thomas financially with the renovation of the church by providing funds. Thomas and Polke share a secret and a fateful relationship from their youth. Thomas had once run over a young girl while drunk at an intersection; Back then, his best friend Max Polke took the blame and went to jail for him. Thomas continues to plague his guilt. He wants forgiveness from the dead girl's father. However, he is now sick with Alzheimer's and can no longer remember his daughter at all.

Pastor Thomas finally succeeds in building a relationship of trust with Tessa. She also tells him that she is pregnant. As a Catholic, her mother refuses to have an abortion for religious reasons. Thomas' childhood friend Doreen, an attractive hairdresser in her prime, who performed an abortion herself at the age of 17, advises against it to have an abortion. As a Catholic and pastor, Thomas naturally rejects abortion, but has to deal with a completely new development. Tessa's pregnancy is the result of rape ; she was raped by Max Polke's son Robin at a party in the youth club "Raw", which was attended by the teenagers Ben and Mo. Thomas encourages Tessa to face the situation and report the rapist, even if it is the son of his old friend Max Polke. Max Polke then terminates the friendship with Pastor Thomas and withdraws the funds already promised to renovate the church.

Desperate, Tessa finally wants to take her own life and jump from the roof, but Pastor Thomas succeeds in preventing her from suicide. Tessa decides to go to the police and report Robin. Max Polke demands from Pastor Thomas to prevent the complaint and threatens to destroy his professional existence. Ben, who is secretly in love with Tessa, offers her to raise the child together with her. But Tessa decides that it is too early for her to have a child now.

Pastor Thomas can mobilize the parishioners. The church is being renovated on our own through donations and our own manual work. The sale of the property can thus be prevented. This is what Mr. Opitz, the Archbishop's official responsible for managing the property, has to recognize. Pastor Thomas has reached the goal of his journey.

criticism

The media historian, journalist and book author Harald Keller described the film The Pastor and the Girl on the website tittelbach.tv as "a transparently constructed holiday melodrama about a man of faith - but devoid of any credibility". He wrote: “The conflicts seem artificial, the milieu conjured up. You don't take your role from any of the adult actors - you don't see a pastor, but Rainer Hunold as he plays a pastor. [....] Incidentally, the lack of coherence is also reflected in the use of the language. A Catholic theologian over sixty will not use stupid synchronic phrases like "do you want to talk?" And if he does, he should be banished to a silent monastery immediately. "
