The German Acting Award (until 2017 German Actor Award ) has been awarded annually since 2012 by the Federal Drama Association (until 2014 Federal Association of Film and Television Actors) (BFFS). The award ceremony took place during the first three years of the Berlin International Film Festival . In 2016, the prizes were presented on May 20 at a gala in Berlin's Zoo Palast . The idea for this award comes from Antoine Monot, Jr. as well as Thomas Schmuckert , Hans-Werner Meyer and Antje Meyer. Schmuckert also headed the Actor Award until it was awarded in 2016, together with Meyer.

The award ceremony has been organized by the La Maison agency since 2017 and takes place in September. Bettina Zimmermann and Hans-Werner Meyer are in charge, the design team consists of Christian Senger, Michael Ruscheinsky, Nadine Heidenreich and Hans-Werner Meyer. Until 2016, a jury selected the winners. Now they are elected directly by the members of the BFFS. A jury will decide on the nominations and a preselection jury will make recommendations.

With the 2017 award ceremony , the former German Actor Award was renamed the German Acting Award .

background

The aim of the “award by actors for actors” is to reflect the “special point of view of actors and their connoisseurship”. The award is to be given to “outstanding actors, filmmakers and companions who were extremely exemplary and inspiring with their work for the acting work in the past year.” The award is undoped, the winners receive a sculpture with the stylized letters “dsp”.
