Dhünnenburg

Dhünnenburg was a place to live in Wermelskirchen - Dabringhausen and went down in the Great Dhünntalsperre . In the end it only consisted of two to three houses with a restaurant. The restaurant building was the economy building of the noble knight's seat. The actual castle grounds were archaeologically examined in the 1970s.

The Dhünnenburg was a knight's seat and is said to have existed before 1300. In 1469 a second was castle built, which was only a ruin in 1800 and was sold for demolition.

For many centuries, the knight's seat with castle house and large property was the livelihood for many noble families, and some of them were also inhabited. Mainly, however, tenants will have worked on the large estate.

The owners named include Reineken von Slender in 1568, Johann von Gürtzgen in 1594, and Wilhelm von Berg in 1666 called Gülich.
