A house in the Bergisch style in Pohlhausen

Pohlhausen is a rural district of Wermelskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia with an altitude of around 260 m. The place borders on the Bergisches Land nature park . Originally consisting of the localities of Ober-, Unterpohlhausen and Am Röttgen, some new development areas changed the small town into a rather large district of Wermelskirchen. The place is surrounded by numerous forest areas, which north of Pohlhausen were badly affected by Hurricane Kyrill (January 2007), but are partly being reforested. Agriculture, which used to characterize the place, is hardly practiced today, but numerous meadows still bear witness to this and, together with the forests, form the typical hilly landscape of the Bergisches Land.

In addition to the local post office , which is operated in the corner shop in the former Wiesemann farm , the village has a kindergarten, a sports field and a tennis facility. The last restaurant was closed in 2017 and there is only one sports bar : the Tura Pohlhausen clubhouse.

At the Easter events and the annual are rock - outdoor concert highlight.
