Most German homeland and patriotic songs is a 1980 in Hörzu label misplaced compilation album of pop and folk music singer Heino . It partly contains songs that were also used during the Nazi era . The album was brought to mind in 2018 when Heino presented it as a gift to CDU Minister Ina Scharrenbach as part of the NRW Home Congress.

background

The compilation album was published in 1980 as number 6 in the family library of German songs , which appeared on the EMI Electrola label and on the Hörzu label. The series comprised a total of eight double LPs , which were put together by Ralf Bendix and each worked on a single topic. The arranger was Erich Brecht, while Kurt G. Lorbach was involved in the production as a sound engineer. The cover shows the Hermannsdenkmal in the Teutoburg Forest . The LP was published with all the lyrics on an exclusive insert and in gatefold format.

Content and title list

It mainly contained old German songs, mostly from the 19th century. Some of these songs were misused by the Nazis, rearranged, some with new lyrics, but others were also used with original lyrics during the Nazi era. Some of the titles were also found in the SS songbook .

controversy

On March 17, 2018, the Ministry for Home, Local Affairs, Building and Equality of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia organized the first NRW Home Congress in Münster, to which the ministry also invited all 47 “Home Ambassadors” from North Rhine-Westphalia. As the only guest, however, only Heino appeared together with his wife Hannelore Kramm . Heino presented the incumbent Minister Ina Scharrenbach with a gift consisting of several sound carriers, including the double album, which is now a sought-after rarity. In a press photo, the minister and Heino posed with the double album in their hands. The Westdeutsche Zeitung first reported on the explosive content of the album, and other media followed suit. Christian Dahm , vice chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in North Rhine-Westphalia, also expressed criticism, which Sven Wolf , local political spokesman for the group, joined. Together with Stefan Kämmerling , Wolf initiated a small inquiry in the NRW state parliament on the subject.

One of the controversially discussed songs was The God who made iron grow with his martial lyrics. A special mention was given to When All Become Unfaithful , which was glorified by the SS as a song of loyalty and is still popular in right-wing circles today. The latter was also the third song in the SS songbook after the Deutschlandlied and the Horst-Wessel-Lied . “The piece from 1814, 'When all are unfaithful', which the SS glorified as 'Loyalty Song', caused particular outrage, but which was sung not only by the SS but also by the Nazi resistance .”

Heino pointed out that his songs had been checked by historians and that many of these songs were misused by the National Socialists. In addition, none of the songs had its origin in the Nazi era. Ina Scharrenbach also defended the gift against his critics.
