Dieter Gantz (born November 1, 1932 in Reideburg ; † January 15, 2018 ) was a German painter , graphic artist and professor .

Life

In 1951 Dieter Gantz passed his Abitur in the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) . He then studied painting until 1957 at the Berlin University of Fine and Applied Arts , where his teachers included Kurt Robbel , Bert Heller , Arno Mohr and Toni Mau . This was followed by studies at the Berlin University of the Arts with Rudolf Bednarczik until 1961 .

After a freelance phase, he was appointed as a university professor at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art in 1980. In 1988 he was appointed professor , and from 1991 he held a full professorship at this art college.

From 1970 he was deputy chairman of the district organization of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . In this capacity, he co-signed a declaration in 1989 expressing incomprehension about the inability of the party and state leadership and calling for a renunciation of force.

Study trips took him to Russia , Finland , Holland , Croatia , Italy , Sweden and Belgium, among others . Dieter Gantz lived and worked in Berlin.
