Dietrich Karl Ludwig von Schmalensee (born June 2, 1768 in Grellenberg ( Grimmen district ), † March 3, 1857 at Haus Reck ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and lord of Haus Reck.

Life

origin

His parents were Karl Friedrich von Schmalensee († 1813) and his wife Eva Amalie, née von Engel (* 1738). His father was the master of Grellenberg and Pantlitz. His brother Ludwig Dietrich Karl (1762-1826) became a Prussian major general .

Military career

Schmalensee occurred on August 12, 1782 Corporal Corporal in the Infantry Regiment "of Lengefeld" the Prussian army and advanced to the end of August 1788 second lieutenant . During the campaign in Poland he fought in 1794/95 in the battle of Rawka, the siege of Warsaw and the battle near Selze. On October 30, 1798 he became Premier Lieutenant and on October 13, 1805, Captain of the Staff . In the Fourth Coalition War he took part in the defense of Danzig with his brother . His brother acquired the order Pour le Mérite there , which is sometimes confused.

After the Treaty of Tilsit Schmalensee was born on January 31, 1808 to captain transported and November 30th 1808 with half-pay the Infantry Regiment no. 2, 1st Infantry Regiment Pommerisches aggregated . On September 4, 1809, he was transferred to the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 4 as a company commander . In the campaign of 1812 he came to Courland . During the Wars of Liberation , Schmalensee received the Iron Cross II Class for the battle near Blankenfelde , was publicly commended after the siege of Magdeburg and was awarded the Iron Cross I Class, the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class and the Order of Saints for Belle Alliance Anna II class excellent. During that time he was transferred to the 4th East Prussian Musketeer Battalion on March 26, 1813 and promoted to major on April 18, 1813 . As early as July 1, 1813, he came to the 3rd Reserve Infantry Regiment (15th Infantry Regiment) and was used as a battalion commander from October 12, 1813.

On April 2, 1815 Schmalensee was commander of the 3rd Neumärk Landwehr Regiment and in this position was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1815 . This was followed from February 27, 1816 as a commander of the 1st Kurmärkische Landwehr Infantry Regiment. On March 8, 1820, he left with an inactive salary. Nevertheless, Schmalensee was appointed colonel on April 3, 1820 , and commander of the 5th Landwehr Regiment on July 21, 1820. In the same capacity he was active from May 29, 1821 to December 8, 1830 in the 15th Infantry Regiment . Subsequently appointed commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade in Münster , Schmalensee received permission to wear his previous uniform on January 8, 1831 and was aggregated into the 15th Infantry Regiment. On March 30, 1831, he was promoted to major general. During the Belgian Revolution in 1832 Schmalensee was assigned to the Observation Corps on the Meuse and on August 12, 1832, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves. On March 10, 1833, he got his farewell as a Lieutenant General with a pension of 2250 thalers.

On November 4, 1847 Schmalensee received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. He died on March 3, 1857 at Haus Reck near Kamen in Westphalia.

Schmalensee married on February 12, 1801 in Graudenz Wilhelmine Luise Tugendreich von Losch (1762-1827), widowed von Parchmin. The couple had the following children:

After the marriage had been divorced on July 13, 1805, he married Karoline Anna Luise von Tiesenhausen (1789–1863) on November 1, 1807 in Elbing .
