Discovery is the second studio album by the French house band Daft Punk . It was released on March 12, 2001.

reception

At the website Metacritic .com , the album received a score of 74 based on 19 professional reviews.

John Bush of Allmusic .com awarded the maximum score. He wrote that the band was developing a sound that was in no way inferior to "past electropop technicians from Giorgio Moroder to Todd Rundgren to Steve Miller ".

Stefan Friedrich, who reviewed the album for Laut.de , does n't think Discovery is a second homework . What Daft Punk sometimes lacks on the album is the necessary pressure behind the songs and a somewhat clearer direction where the journey of discovery should go.

Ryan Schreiber reviewed Discovery for the e-zine Pitchfork . Progressive rock and disco would never have openly asked for a hybrid , but the album is a lively " Frankenbaby " of this newborn genre , whether you like it or not.

Commercial win

The album reached number 5 in Germany , number 6 in Austria and Switzerland, number 2 in Great Britain and also number 2 in France .

Music videos

All music videos from the single releases from the album are anime- style. The story of the kidnapping of an interstellar pop band is told in the individual episodes.

The story was continued in 2003 in the Japanese anime music film Interstella 5555 - The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem , with the already existing videos being integrated into the film. The film does not contain any dialogues, only the music from the Discovery album as a soundtrack .
