The district of Jesús is located in the province of Cajamarca in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on August 29, 1834. It has an area of ​​267.78 km². The 2017 census counted 15,020 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 14,061, in 2007 14,240. The seat of the district administration is the small town of Jesús at an altitude of 2564  m with 3209 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jesús is located about 20 km southeast of the provincial and regional capital Cajamarca .

Geographical location

The district of Jesús is located in the Andean highlands east of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central southeast of the province of Cajamarca. The River Cajamarca flows through the area in a south-easterly direction.

The district of Jesús borders in the northwest with the district Cajamarca , in the north with the districts Llacanora and Namora , in the east with the districts Matara and Pedro Gálvez ( province San Marcos ), in the south with the districts Cachachi ( province Cajabamba ) and Cospán and in the west to the districts of Asunción and San Juan .
