Dominik Schmidt (born July 1, 1987 in Berlin ) is a German soccer player . The central defender is under contract with MSV Duisburg .

Career

Dominik Schmidt started playing soccer at 1. FC Lübars . From there he moved via the Reinickendorfer Füchse to Nordberliner SC and finally to Tasmania Gropiusstadt , for whom he was used in the U-19 Bundesliga .

Thereupon Werder Bremen signed him for the second team playing in the Regionalliga Nord , where he was initially mainly used as a substitute. He played 15 games in the 2006/07 season , in which he came nine times from the bench into the game and was substituted once. In the remaining five games he was on the field for the full 90 minutes. Also in this season he scored his first goal in senior football after a substitution in the 66th minute in the away game against Kickers Emden : In the 2: 4 defeat he scored the goal to make it 2: 3. With the Werder amateurs, he finished eighth in the table in midfield, but was only four points ahead of the best relegated Holstein Kiel .

In 2007/08 it was used more frequently. He has now played 24 games, only eight of them as a joker. He had to leave the field prematurely five times while playing through eleven times. He also increased his goal scoring to two hits. This season he qualified with the Bremen Reserve with the fifth place in the table for the newly created 3rd division . There he became a regular player. He was used 34 times on the 38 match days, mostly from the start. Only in five cases he was not used over the entire distance, including two substitutions and three substitutions. He scored a goal; his team achieved relegation.

He was then included in the squad of the first professional team playing in the Bundesliga for the 2009/10 season . Nevertheless, he initially continued to play with the second representation until after a few games problems with the patellar tendon put him out of action for several months. After his recovery he played in the 3rd division, with the exception of one in which he was not eligible to play due to a yellow card suspension , but was not used in any competitive game of the first team. In total, he was on the field 22 times, and he was substituted five times. He didn't score this season. With his club he moved again in the lower table region and ended the season in 13th place.

Also in 2010/11 he started as a regular player in the 3rd division. However, at the end of November 2010 he made his competitive debut for the first team due to numerous failures of other players. He played right from the start on matchday five of the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League in the game at Tottenham Hotspur . The game was lost with 0: 3 and meant that it was eliminated from international competitions. Nevertheless, Schmidt played through in all remaining games in 2010 in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. During the winter break, he was offered an extension of his contract, which expired in the summer of 2011, which he refused because he asked for a higher salary - the manager of professional football Klaus Allofs considered this demand to be excessive. In the second half of the season Schmidt was only used sporadically, mostly as a substitute. However, there were further talks about a contract extension, but no agreement was reached.

A few days before the start of the 2011/12 season, he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for relegated Eintracht Frankfurt for free . Schmidt made his first game for Hessen on August 21, 2011 in a 4-0 win against FSV Frankfurt when he came on for Sebastian Rode in the 76th minute . It was his only second division appearance for Eintracht Frankfurt. Instead, he played regularly in the regional league team . As a reason for not being able to assert himself in Frankfurt, Schmidt cited a lack of fitness due to the lack of preparation for the season.

For the following summer break he moved to SC Preußen Münster . In the away game on matchday 9 at VfL Osnabrück, he was seriously injured and was out for the rest of the season with a tear in the cruciate ligament and inner ligament. In the 2013/14 season he scored two goals for the first time in his career in the game against the league leaders from Heidenheim .

For the 2015/16 season he moved to league competitor Holstein Kiel . Schmidt was in the central defense of the “Storks” until November 2019 under changing head coaches. In 2017 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the team , a year later they failed in the promotion relegation at VfL Wolfsburg . By the end of his contract in summer 2020, the Berliner played 154 competitive games for Kiel and was also deputy team captain at times. The third division MSV Duisburg , where his former Kiel teammate Arne Sicker also plays, signed Schmidt for the 2020/21 season and provided him with a one-year contract that can be extended with an option. Four central defenders, including regular Lukas Boeder , had previously left the zebras .
