Donnersberg Literature Days

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Donnersberger Literaturtage (DLT) are a voluntary literary event in Rhineland-Palatinate . They take place every two years as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer .

Goals and concept

The aim is to elevate the region around the Donnersberg to a Palatinate and, moreover, Rhineland-Palatinate literary stage. They originate from an initiative by Donnersberg authors (2006), which in the meantime (from 2008) was carried out by Thomas M. Mayr alone. Since 2012 the organization has been transferred to the Donnersberger Literaturverein, of which he is chairman.

Initially, the DLT was based on models such as the Rhineland-Palatinate Literature Days and the Eifel Literature Festival . In the meantime they have found their own style. The concept includes an advertisement for students in the Palatinate and Rheinhessen after completing secondary school, whereby the topic is based on that of the cultural summer Rhineland-Palatinate . In detail:

  • Students can only register through their school. The Susanne Faschon Prize is awarded to the winner .
  • In addition, a “prize for the most creative school to write” will be awarded.
  • The winners of each year are supported after the writing competition by enabling them to read in different parts of the country.
  • The Susanne Faschon Prize winners are members of the jury for the following competition.

Furthermore

  • nationally known authors are invited to readings; including a bilingual author.
  • Regionally known authors read it; including a dialect poet.
  • There is also a poetry slam.
  • There is no entrance fee for the readings.

In view of this concept, which also includes events for children, an art exhibition on the literary topic and appropriate lectures, the DLT are the most complex and varied literature festival in Rhineland-Palatinate, perhaps even in a national comparison. In terms of content, all types of literature are represented, from science fiction / fantasy to poetry.

history

The DLT are under the patronage of the respective Rhineland-Palatinate minister of culture and are largely financed from donations and public funds that flow into the project and program work.

They began in 2007 with the participation of students from all eligible schools in the Donnersbergkreis. Since 2017, they have included all pupils who have completed secondary school in the Palatinate , since 2019 also in Rheinhessen , and from 2021 throughout Rhineland-Palatinate . The DLT take place every two years. The readings were initially limited to one week and now cover the months of May and June. The number of visitors has risen continuously and in 2017 was with 13 events with over 1300 visitors.

In addition to the Susanne Faschon Prize, a “Prize for the most creative school in writing” has been awarded since 2015. Since 2015 it has honored the commitment of teachers.
