The Protestant village church Allendorf (also Holy Cross Church ) is located in the municipality of Allendorf in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

In 1185 a Konrad von Allendorf witnessed several legal affairs of the Counts of Schwarzburg . It is assumed that Allendorf was an original parish when the Christian faith was introduced, because the parish Allendorf included the places Aschau , Bechstedt , Oberköditz , Unterköditz , Schwarzburg , the two desert areas Dissau (desert) , Tanndorf (desert) and Sitzendorf , Quelitz , Oberhain , Unterhain , Mankenbach and Barigau .

In 1230 a pastor Konrad von Allendorf was mentioned, so that it can be assumed that there was already a place of worship . In 1430 the church got a carved altar from an Erfurt workshop. It was in the Thuringian Museum Eisenach for a long time and has been exhibited at the Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt since 2008 . In 1489 the church received a second altar from a school in Saalfeld . In 1606 it was restored.

The altar commemorates the patron saint of miners for the mining industry in Allendorf, because since the 13th century, mining operated in Allendorf. In 1866 there were nine pits here. Iron, copper and alabaster were mined. This marble was in great demand.

The first church tower was built and mentioned in 1520. Then in 1576 reference was made to a new building that still stands today. The church was enlarged in 1847–1821. In 1756 the tower was integrated through construction measures and the condition that still exists today was achieved.

The organ with 16 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1821 by Johann Friedrich Schulze .

On August 11, 2010, the parish celebrated the anniversary “825 years of the church” in the village with citizens, believers and guests.
