action

Anita, Maria and Francis, three American secretaries who are friends in Rome, share an apartment. Her way to work always takes her past the legendary Trevi Fountain , which is said to have put a coin in, and you will always return to the Eternal City. Francis and Maria want to check the saga for its truthfulness and each throw a coin into it. But Anita is afraid to do the same, because she wants to go back to America.

The Italian interpreter Georgio, in the service of Mr. Burgoyne, who runs an American agency in Rome, has an eye on his colleague Anita. However, Burgoyne has forbidden its employees to start a fuss with one another.

At a party, Maria meets the heartthrob Dino de Cessi, a real prince. It is said of him that he was only interested in taking his new conquest to a palazzo in Venice and dropping it like a hot potato after a night of love.

Anita accompanies Georgio to a family celebration in the country. Meanwhile, Prince Dino is leaving for Venice with Maria and Francis. However, because the painter does not manage to be alone with Maria, all three soon return to Rome. When Anita's boss gets wind of his secretary's excursion with his interpreter, he dismisses the Italian without notice. Anita then visits Georgio in his poor apartment and decides to stay with him.

Prince Dino introduces Maria to his mother, which is the first step towards an early engagement. Carelessly, however, Maria drops the comment that she has arranged the whole thing with a woman's cunning, which results in the immediate separation.

The next day, Francis and Anita meet in the shared apartment. Anita is tormented by a violent lovesickness. Because she could not marry Georgio, she wanted to return to America as soon as possible. Maria has the same in mind, packing her suitcase in the room next door. She has not seen her beloved prince again since breaking up with Dino.

The only one who seems lucky is Francis. Her engagement to Shadwell only lasted a few days; Because when he learns from his doctor that he is terminally ill, he withdraws his marriage proposal without revealing the real reason to his bride. But this does not remain hidden from her for long, whereupon she tries to persuade her lover to seek treatment from a specialist in the States. Shadwell refuses to do so. Only after he has drained several glasses of whiskey and Francis has done the same does he want to take her advice.

The three friends meet at the Trevi Fountain as agreed. Francis tells Anita that Georgio will get his job back. Incidentally, she only arranged the meeting to meet three gentlemen. At that moment, Shadwell, Dino and Georgio step in. Three happy couples find each other.
