The European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction ( EMCDDA ; English E uropean M onitoring C entre for D rugs and D rug A ddiction, EMCDDA ) is an agency of the European Union based in the Portuguese capital Lisbon . It publishes an annual report on the state of the drug problem in Europe.

aims

The aim of the European Council in creating the EMCDDA was "to set up an observatory which would provide objective, reliable and comparable information that would give the Community and its Member States an overview of the phenomenon of drugs and drug addiction and their effects" .

Legal basis

The EMCDDA was created on the basis of EEC Regulation No. 302/93 of February 8, 1993. On December 22nd, 1994 the regulation was changed again.

The Chairman of the Management Board of the EMCDDA is João Goulão and the Vice-President is Claude Gillard. The director of the EMCDDA is Wolfgang Götz .
