The East Galena Township is one of 23 townships in Jo Daviess County in the extreme northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois .

The East Galena Township is located in northwest Illinois on the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa . The north-western border of the township is formed by the Galena River . The Wisconsin border is approximately 20 north of the township.

The East Galena Township is 42 ° 24'41 "north latitude and 90 ° 23'30" west longitude and extends over 60.65 km², which is spread over 60.25 km² of land and 0.4 km² of water.

The East Galena Township borders within Jo Daviess County in the north on the Council Hill Township , in the east on the Guilford Township , in the southeast on the Elizabeth Township , in the south the Rice Township , in the west on the West Galena as well as the Rawlins Township and in the Northwest to Vinegar Hill Township .

By East Galena Township Township of the Illinois portion leads the Great River Road forming US Highway 20 , which here on the same route as the Illinois Highway 84 runs. In addition, there are a number of partly unpaved county roads and other subordinate roads in the township.

A BNSF Railway , which runs parallel to the entire Mississippi, runs through the southwest corner of the township.

The closest airfields are Dubuque Regional Airport , located around 40 km west in Iowa, and Platteville Municipal Airport, around 35 km north in Wisconsin .
