The Hanover Township is the largest of 23 townships in Jo Daviess County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois .

The Hanover Township is traversed by the Apple River and is located in northwest Illinois on the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa . The Wisconsin border is around 25 miles north.
The Hanover Township is 42 ° 14'38 "north latitude and 90 ° 18'05" west longitude and extends over 147.17 km², which is spread over 134.93 km² of land and 12.14 km² of water.
The Hanover Township borders within Jo Daviess County in the northwest on the Rice Township , in the north on the Elizabeth Township , in the northeast on the Woodbine Township and in the east on the Derinda Township . In the south, the Hanover Township borders on Carroll County . On the opposite side of the Mississippi is Jackson County , Iowa.
A large part of Hanover Township is occupied by the Savanna Army Depot site .
