The Eckbach-Mühlenwanderweg is a hiking trail in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has a length of 23 km and runs with a slight gradient along the Eckbach through the southern part of the Leiningerland in the northeastern Palatinate .

course

The hiking trail runs from west to east / northeast within the community of Leiningerland . From the Palatinate Forest via the vineyards on the German Wine Route to the edge of the Rhine plain , it connects nine local communities that still have 23 partially restored mills - of the original 35.

The difference in altitude between the start and end point ( Hertlingshausen / Eckbachquelle, 311  m , or Dirmstein / Spormühle , 104  m ) is 207 m, the cumulative difference in altitude over the slightly sloping route is only about 250 m. This means that the trail has an easy level of difficulty .

The path, which can be walked all year round, is marked by wooden signposts that were made by hand by voluntary helpers and have been maintained since then. To the left of the name “Eckbach-Mühlenwanderweg” they have a logo that shows a house outline with a mill wheel above a wavy line and was designed in 1997 by Cosmas Kösters from Kirchheim in a school competition . The wavy line symbolizes the Eckbach, the stylized house with a mill wheel symbolizes a mill.

history

The path was set up for tourist purposes on the initiative of the mill researcher Wolfgang Niederhöfer from Kleinkarlbach by the then community of Grünstadt-Land . On October 12, 1997, the inauguration by the Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Kurt Beck took place in Großkarlbach , the place with the most preserved mills (six of seven). The then suggested expansion of the Großkarlbacher Dorfmühle into a cultural monument and mill museum Leiningerland was completed in 2007.

The trail originally began at the Eckbachweiher and was only 19 km long. In 2000, the Hettenleidelheim association joined the tourism initiative and extended the route by 4 km up to the Eckbach spring in Hertlingshausen. This is marked with the knight's stone No. 286 , which has the inscription "Eckbach-Ursprung" carved on it.
