Eduard Linkers , actually Ludwig Linkers , (born October 11, 1912 in Czernowitz , Austria-Hungary , † April 3, 2004 in Wartenberg , Germany ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

After graduating from school , Linkers , who came from the Austro-Hungarian Duchy of Bukowina , attended the Elevenschule at the Vienna Volkstheater with Rudolf Beer and Rolf Jahn . He received his first theater engagement in Klagenfurt. From 1931 to 1938 Linkers worked as an actor and cabaret artist at various stages in Vienna (including Theater an der Wien and Theater in der Josefstadt ).

Under the National Socialist rule in Austria , Linkers, whose father was Jewish, was banned from working . Instead, he worked as an English teacher in Prague between 1938 and 1945.

After the war , Linkers returned to his previous job and played twelve leading and title roles in Czech films between 1946 and 1950. He mainly played shady and cryptic characters like in the science fiction film Krakatit based on the novella by Karel Čapek . From 1951 Linkers played on numerous German-speaking theaters, such as in Munich ( Münchner Kammerspiele , Staatsschauspiel), Berlin ( Freie Volksbühne Berlin ), Vienna ( Theater an der Wien , Raimundtheater ), Frankfurt as well as numerous touring theaters.

Linkers made his feature film debut in Henry Koster's comedy Katharina as early as 1935 . At first he played smaller roles, later also larger roles in productions such as Georg Wilhelm Pabst's drama Es happened on July 20 (with Bernhard Wicki as Stauffenberg ), in the Heinz Erhardt comedies The House Tyrant and The Last Pedestrian , in The Marquise von O. .. after Heinrich von Kleist and the Hermann Hesse adaptation Der Steppenwolf (with Max von Sydow ).

In addition, the polyglot Linkers also often appeared in international productions, for example in the thriller Mr. Arkadin under the direction of Orson Welles , as Lt. Zimmermann alongside Rock Hudson in the Hemingway film In Another Land , in the Terry Thomas comedy Verpfiffen , alongside Michel Serrault in the French science fiction drama Malevil and in Claude Chabrol's multi-part Fantômas

In addition, Linkers gave numerous guest appearances in television series such as Der Kommissar , Derrick , Der Alte , Kommissar Freytag and Forsthaus Falkenau .
