Heinrich Eduard Joseph Freiherr von Lannoy (born December 3, 1787 in Brussels , † March 28, 1853 in Vienna ) was a writer, music teacher, conductor and composer in the transition between classical and early romanticism .

Life

Eduard von Lannoy came from the Flemish noble family Lannoy (French: Maison de Lannoy ). After completing school in Graz (1796–1801) he studied philosophy, music and mathematics at the universities in Brussels , Paris and Graz . In 1808 he came to Styria with his family, who had acquired Wildhaus Castle (now Vilthus) near Marburg an der Drau (now Maribor) in Slovenia.

Here he joined the circle of Archduke Johann, who was close to the people, and gave important impulses to the cultural and musical life of Graz and Vienna. He was on the board of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and temporarily headed the affiliated conservatory and the Concerts spirituels , which are particularly dedicated to the work of L. v. Dedicated to Beethoven. He was in close contact with important musical contemporaries, including Hector Berlioz , Ferdinand David , Gaetano Donizetti , Anselm Hüttenbrenner , Franz Lachner , Franz Liszt , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Johann Vesque von Püttlingen and Henri Vieuxtemps . As a composer he celebrated numerous successes with more catchy than deep works. His melodrama “One o'clock or The Magic League at midnight” alone saw more than 100 performances in the Theater an der Wien .

He is buried in the Catholic cemetery Vienna Matzleinsdorf (today: Waldmüllerpark ).
