course

The Eggel brook , which mostly carries a relatively small amount of water, has its source in eastern Westphalia in the Höxter district . Its source is located in the Warburger Börde almost 3 km north-west of Borgentreich , around 2.5 km south-south-west of the Natzungen district and around 675 m (distances as the crow flies ) north-north-east of the Kahlenberg ( 247.7  m above sea level) ) at about 235  m above sea level. NN .

Initially the Eggel flows to the west-southwest in the direction of Eissen (district of Willebadessen ), but it bends about 1.5 km before the village to the east-southeast. In this direction it runs through the Warburger Börde past the Soethemühle and Aldorpsen , after which the Helle and Mühlenbach rivers coming from the east flow into Lütgeneder (district of Borgentreich), where the Eder brooks coming from the west (not with the Fulda- Confuse tributary Eder ) and Siekbach.

Further south, the Eggel passes the villages of Rösebeck (district of Borgentreich) in the east and Daseburg (district of Warburg ) in the west as well as the Desenberg in the west, to form the border with northern Hesse a little further downriver over a length of about 400 m . At this border it flows below Übelgönne (belonging to Warburg manor) between Warburg in the west and Liebenau in the east at about 150  m above sea level. NN into the Diemel coming from the west , which is a western tributary of the Weser .

On its 17.4 km long path, the Eggel overcomes a height difference of 85 m, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 4.9 ‰. It drains a catchment area of 107.024 km², of which 0.209 km² is in Hesse.
