Egiodola

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The red wine variety Egiodola is a French new variety of the INRA in Bordeaux ( Institut National de la Recherche en Agronomie ) from 1954 between the varieties Abouriou x Tinta de Madeira (also called Tinta Negra Mole). A DNA analysis by INRA Montpellier refuted the previous assumption that Fer Servadou x Abouriou was crossed. The Basque Pierre Marcel Durquety realized a number of new breeds between 1950 and 1980, of which 7 grape varieties received plant variety protection: the 4 red varieties Arinarnoa , Egiodola, Ekigaïna , Semebat and the 3 white varieties Arriloba , Liliorila and Perdea .

After Egiodola in 1978 in France Variety Protection received, it is since 1983 in the departments of Ardèche , Aude , Aveyron , Gers , Gironde , Hérault , Landes , Loire-Atlantique , Lot , Lot-et-Garonne , Maine-et-Loire , Nièvre , Pyrénées-Atlantiques , Pyrénées-Orientales , Tarn-et-Garonne , Var and Corsica approved for the production of wine . In 2007 a planted vineyard area of 296 hectares was surveyed (source ONIVINS)

The early ripening variety is very productive and largely resistant to raw rot . It results in deep dark, alcohol-rich red wines that have little acid but a lot of tannin (see also the article Phenols in Wine ). In France, the variety is mainly used as a blend wine in appellations in the Sud-Ouest region. The variety is also grown in Brazil .

See the articles Viticulture in Brazil and Viticulture in France, as well as the list of grape varieties .

Synonyms: since the grape variety is new, there is no other synonym except for the name Ezhiodola .
