Egon Franke (fencer)
Egon Johann Franke (born October 23, 1935 in Gliwice ) is a former Polish foil fencer and Olympic champion .
Career
Franke retired from the 1960 Olympic Games with the Polish team in the quarter-finals. After that he won a medal every year at the season highlight with the Polish team from 1961 to 1968. At the 1962 World Championships, he not only took part with the foil, but also with the saber team, which won gold. At the 1963 World Championships, he received his only individual medal at the World Championships, when he won the bronze medal behind the French fencer Jean-Claude Magnan and his compatriot Ryszard Parulski . At the 1964 Olympic Games he won four out of five battles in the preliminary round and three out of five battles in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals and the finals, Franke lost no more battles and thus won the gold medal in the individual ranking.
