Egon VIII (Fürstenberg-Heiligenberg)

Egon VIII von Fürstenberg-Heiligenberg (born March 21, 1588 in Speyer , † August 24, 1635 in Konstanz ) was Count von Fürstenberg-Heiligenberg as well as Bavarian general field master and an important military leader in the Thirty Years' War .

Life

Egon came from the noble family of Fürstenberg , his father was Count Friedrich von Fürstenberg-Heiligenberg (1563-1617), his mother Elisabeth von Sulz (1563-1601) was a daughter of Count Alwig von Sulz .

As the third son of the couple, he initially held church offices. He was choir bishop of Magdeburg and Strasbourg, chamberlain and canon, provost of St. Gereon in Cologne, and of Archduke Leopold , the bishop of Passau and Strasbourg, councilor and governor in the Mundat of Rufach .

By an imperial patent dated September 9, 1619 he became a general in the service of the Catholic League during the Thirty Years War. Egon von Fürstenberg executed the edict of restitution in Franconia and Württemberg in 1631 . Together with Johann von Aldringen , after the Peace of Cherasco in 1631, he waged war against Württemberg: He forced the duke to submit to the emperor and to distance himself from the decisions of the Leipzig Convention. On September 14, 1631, under the orders of the Imperial General Tilly , he commanded the right wing in the conquest of Leipzig .

Marriage and offspring

Count Egon married Countess Anna Maria von Hohenzollern-Hechingen, a daughter of Johann Georg von Hohenzollern-Hechingen , in 1619 and had seven sons and four daughters with her. Including:
