geography

The hamlet is located in a dry valley on the Franconian Alb plateau at an altitude of 516  m above sea level. NN and about seven kilometers away from Parsberg south, Velburg west and Hohenfels east. The soils are characterized by a high lime content, on which an industrial scale open-cast mining is operated one kilometer east of the village (quarry). The extensive grounds of the Hohenfels military training area extend north of the village .

history

Stiegerfelsen

The area around Eichensee was already permanently settled in the late Hallstadt and early La Tène periods, as evidenced by individual finds from burial sites with leveled burial mounds 700 m west and north-east of today's town center, which are protected as ground monuments. On the approximately 700 m southwest, 629  m above sea level. NN high Mayersberg was also a rampart with an over 6000 m² hilltop settlement from the late Hallstatt / early Taten period around the Stiegerfelsen . (see picture) During the Roman imperial era, all traces of settlement are lost and the place only reappears as a cleared settlement after the turn of the millennium. There is a first documentary mention of 1401, as belonging to the “fine gentlemen of Eichenseern” who were subject to Elector Friedrich zu Neumarkt.

After unclear fortunes of the place in the late Middle Ages, the Bavarian original cadastre shows Eichensee in the 1810s as a hamlet with five stoves and three ponds . The largest of these was located in the center of the village and was probably the Eichensee that gave it its name . As heavenly ponds, the ponds were all fed exclusively by precipitation and are now filled in, leveled and built over.

In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , Eichensee was incorporated into the town of Parsberg in the early 1970s.

The place is still predominantly agricultural today.
